One of them has to be stopped to end the vicious cycle.
Medication might reduce the symptoms.
Therapy might help you to reduce the stress.

Itn my case, stress causes the symptoms. Of course he return of symptoms increases my stress level, but the initial stress (not related to anything to do with mental illness per se) causes the symptoms to rear their ugly head in the first place. It's an ugly downward spiral from there unless my therapist intervenes and my meds are adjusted. That's how it works with me, anyway.
